Apple’s supply chain has begun stocking the rumored 15-inch MacBook Air, according to industry sources cited DigiTimes. The report says that the laptop is expected to be announced at Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, which begins on June 5.
Despite the launch of the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air, sources believe that total MacBook shipments are likely to face a single-digit decline in 2023 due to a “disappointing” first half of the year. The sources also said that the “pull momentum” of the 15-inch MacBook Air “wasn’t as strong compared to previous new products.”
bloombergMark Gurman expects the 15-inch MacBook Air to debut at WWDC. Like the 13-inch MacBook Air, the 15-inch model will be powered by an M2 chip with multiple GPU configurations, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
There have been no rumors of any changes in the design of the 15-inch MacBook Air other than a larger screen size. The 13-inch model is equipped with a notch that houses a 1080p camera, a MagSafe 3 charging port, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a scissor keyboard with Touch ID button, and a Force Touch trackpad.
Sources believe that MacBook shipments could recover in the second half of 2023 if new MacBooks are released with 3nm chips, but Apple’s chipmaker TSMC has had 3nm production issues, so it’s not clear when Apple’s M3 chip will appear.
