The PS5 The jailbreak was broken by a mod, exposing new backends in the process.
Earlier today, on October 3, designer Lance McDonald posted the tweet right below, revealing that the PS5 console had finally been jailbroken properly. From the wording of the tweet, and the watermark on the video, it certainly looks as if it was McDonald himself who opened the console.
It’s…beautiful the PlayStation 5 has been jailbroken. pic.twitter.com/54fvBGoQGwOctober 3, 2022
A video of McDonald’s accessing the back menus is shown on a jailbroken PS5 console. Thanks to the hack, it can open up a special “Patch Menu” option in the console’s main menu systems, thus accessing a bunch of added options that users wouldn’t normally be able to see.
There are plenty of options available to McDonald in the debug menu, including options for tuning games, controllers, users, PlayStation Network, and more. Even a McDonald’s video ends up downloading and installing the missing PT demo, a prelude to Hideo Kojima’s canceled Silent Hills project, via patch menu options.
It’s a great find, but that’s clearly still early for the PS5 community in general. McDonald’s various responses to the responses below the original tweet show that more work needs to be done so far to work around system kinks, such as being able to import saved data for games like PT. PS5 Pro appears on the scene.
