The US Justice Secretary on Monday accused the Chinese government of seeking to “undermine the judicial system” of the United States by announcing indictments against 13 Chinese nationals working for Beijing’s intelligence services.
Citing three separate cases, Merrick Garland said it showed that the Chinese government “has sought to interfere with the rights and liberties of people in the United States and to undermine our judicial system that protects these rights.” “The Judiciary will not tolerate any attempt by any foreign power to undermine the rule of law upon which our democracy is founded,” he added.

Giant Huawei
The cases cited by Merrick Garland involved seven Chinese accused of trying to force one of their compatriots living in the United States to return to China as part of a Beijing-led forced repatriation campaign. Two of the accused were arrested in New York on Thursday.
In the second case, two Chinese intelligence agents have been indicted for allegedly trying to block a US lawsuit against a Chinese telecommunications company. It will be the giant Huawei. Third, four Chinese nationals were charged “in connection with a long-running intelligence campaign targeting individuals in the United States to act as agents of the People’s Republic of China.”
The announcements come a day after Chinese President Xi Jinping was reappointed as the leader of the Chinese Communist Party and China.
