WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Around Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to celebrate one year since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and announce new sanctions against those helping Russia’s war effort. House said.
The same group met last year, hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine, imposing the first round of a series of sanctions.
“The G7 has become a pillar of our strong and united response to Russia,” White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre told reporters Thursday. On Friday, she said, the leaders will discuss “how to continue our support for Ukraine” and ways to increase pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine a year ago.
The sanctions will include Russian banks, the technology and defense sectors, and will affect individuals and companies involved in the conflict, according to Jean-Pierre.

She added that the United States will also announce a new Ukrainian aid package that includes economic, security and energy support.
