Louisville guard Hayley Van Leith enters the gate as a graduate transfer

“We thank Healy for her contributions to this program, this school, and this community,” head coach Jeff Walz said in a statement. “She’s done everything we’ve asked of her over the past three years, and we wish her all the best in her final collegiate season and beyond.”

One of the best players in the ACC and in the country, Van Lith’s eligibility lasted two years: her first season and a COVID “free” year given to basketball athletes amid the 2020-21 COVID season. The school said it will receive its degree in finance in May.

The 5-foot-7 garrison from Washington is off to a career year in which she averaged 19.7 points and 3.2 assists per game, as well as 4.5 rebounds — making her one of the Power 5 players, along with Caitlin Clark, who has… She averaged at least 19 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. The two-time first-team All-ACC propelled the Cardinals to the 2022 Final Four, where she was named Most Valuable Player in the Wichita Regional. Louisville eventually lost to champion South Carolina in the national semifinals.

Van Leith shouldered much of the scoring burden this season in Louisville, but the Cardinals pulled together just in time to advance to the program’s fifth consecutive Elite Eight this season, falling to the Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in Seattle.

During her three seasons at Louisville—two of which she was the team’s leading scorer—Van Leith compiled averages of 15.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on 42.2% shooting from the field (33.7%-of-3). She ranks twelfth on the program’s all-time score list.

As HoopGurlz’s #7 out of high school recruit, she was a McDonald’s All American and finalist for the Naismith Trophy High School of the Year. She also has extensive experience in American basketball.
