Four people were killed in a shooting near Lisbon on Sunday, Portuguese media reported, citing police sources. They add that at the start of the killing, there would be a clash between members of the 40- to 60-year-old “group of pigeon fanciers” and breeders of racing pigeons.
The circumstances of the tragedy, which took place in Setubal district, forty kilometers south of the Portuguese capital, have yet to be determined. But according to Portuguese media, the person who wrote the shots was one of the victims. “Jornal de Noticias” says he shot three others before killing himself when police arrived.
An isolated situation for the local police
According to the first elements of the investigation, “it will be an isolated situation concerning these four people,” explained Setubal police spokesperson Commissioner Andrea Gonçalves to the public television channel RTP. When emergency services arrived at the scene, they “found four people dead,” the commissioner noted.
According to local media, judicial police have found a gun that could be the murder weapon and have launched an investigation.
