Things are slow, which means things that won’t hit the radar screen when things aren’t slow or they’ll flicker.
This is the thing that made a photogram.
In response to the nonsensical “Baby Gronk” phenomenon, Bowl senior executive Jim Nagy posted a lengthy tweet intended to make it clear that preparing a child to play professional football at a young age is unimportant. Ultimately, it’s about being big, strong, quick and ready to go full speed with other footballers – and developing these skills has nothing to do with any amount of training during the childhood years.
Naji’s opinion is appropriate for some situations. For others, like a quarterback, a sudden growth spurt or some serendipitous accident that gives a player a rocket arm overnight won’t really matter if the player has little or no experience reading defenses, processing information before and during play, studying the rules of the game, a movie, and/or Or lead other soccer players.
Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett opted for something more direct, in response to Nagy.
“It rarely matters when you start taking care of your kids,” Bennett tweeted. “Thank you for Comprehensive parenting adviceJim. Perhaps parents who have dreams for their children, or children who have dreams in general, should just listen to you, Master of Talent Assessment. LOL – Scout who saw an opportunity…”
There is history here. Bennett declined an invitation to attend the Senior Bowl. Nagy then described Bennett as a low prospect.
“The only quarterbacks in the five years since I’ve been here that we haven’t had in the past are Joe Borough and Trevor Lawrence,” Nagy previously said, via SI.com’s Jonathan Williams. “These supposed guys were No. 1 overall. We called before we started communicating with the Stetson people, and it was Choose the sixth or seventh roundwhich is a lot better than he was in the year, which was a priority free agent.”
The Rams selected Bennett in the fourth round, without even bringing Bennett into the Senior Bowl.
The selection was surprising, given that Bennett was widely regarded as the man to go in the later rounds. To what extent did Naji’s comments affect Bennett’s perceived status? It obviously didn’t affect the Rams.
However, Bennett appears to hold a grudge. It’s hard to blame him for that. The Senior Bowl is a business, and it relies on as many potential customers as possible showing up and participating. If too many players refuse to go on and play football for free after not being paid for two, three, or four years, then The Senior Bowl will become a junior-produced, at best.
However, Nagy’s job is to get the players to come. But it’s easy to see why Bennett would consider Nagy to dismiss Bennett as a sixth or seventh round pick as a sour grape.
