Overnight Russian drone strikes in Kew killed at least one person and injured four others, officials said Thursday. The Ukrainian capital was attacked for the third night in a row. Explosions were heard in many areas.
“A massive attack was carried out by Iranian drones tonight,” the Kyiv military administration said in a telegram. Shahed said explosive drones “entered the capital from different directions,” and he pointed out that “a dozen” of them were shot down in the city’s airspace.
Authorities said falling debris was reported in five neighborhoods, and a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were hospitalized with shrapnel injuries.
Two people were injured in Darnytsky district “as a result of falling debris,” the head of Kyiv’s military administration, Sergei Babko, said in a telegram. It is not clear whether these two are victims.
A real threat
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said emergency services responded to calls in the Solomyanskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Podilskyi and Darnytskyi neighborhoods following “explosions in the capital”.
“The body of a dead person was found during a fire in an apartment building in Podilsky district,” Kitchko said in a telegram. He also noted that two people were “hospitalized” in similar circumstances in the same neighborhood, not knowing if they were the same person.
Two other people in Shevchenkivskyi district were treated at the scene, Klitschko said.
The fire broke out in an apartment building in Shevchenkivskyi district and a non-residential building in Podilskyi, he added, adding that emergency services were on the scene.
A photo posted on the official Telegram channel of the Kyiv military administration shows part of a completely blown-out wall in a room of a high-rise building in Darnytskyi.
The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that the threat of a Russian drone attack on Kyiv was real.
