Shot by FBI after making threats against Biden
A man who had been watched by the FBI for months and was arrested Wednesday hours before Joe Biden’s planned visit to Utah was shot and killed.
A man wanted by US authorities for months for making threats against Joe Biden was shot and killed by the FBI in Utah on Wednesday, hours before the president’s planned visit to the western state.
The FBI, or federal police, said a suspect was killed early Wednesday as officers tried to arrest him in Provo, south of Salt Lake City. The investigation is ongoing, the FBI added, without providing details about the man. The latter was identified as Craig Robertson in a complaint by federal prosecutors in Utah.
According to the document, he is a septuagenarian who has presented himself as a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, and has repeatedly threatened Joe Biden in posts on social networks.
“I dust off the M24 rifle”
His Vice President Kamala Harris, Attorney General Merrick Garland and prosecutor Alvin Bragg — who oversaw the investigation that led to Donald Trump’s indictment in New York — have been threatened, as have FBI agents.
“Now is the time for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!” A record says. “Heard Biden is coming to Utah (…). I’m dusting off the M24 rifle. Welcome, farce, chief!” Another, according to the complaint, was posted a few days ago, and that person also posted photos of numerous guns, according to the same source.
President Biden is currently visiting the western United States and is scheduled to visit Salt Lake City later Wednesday. The Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting top government officials, said it was “aware of an FBI investigation involving an individual in Utah who threatened a Secret Service-protected individual,” but did not provide further details.
