Alan Wake 2 Gets Stunning Debut Tracking + Trailer for DLSS 3.5

Alan Wake 2 got a lot of news yesterday at Gamescom 2023. First, NVIDIA confirmed that the game will have full lane tracing on PC as well as support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.5.

As described in our DLSS 3.5 article, the newly announced Ray Reconstruction technology takes advantage of AI to improve the quality of ray tracing. Tatu Aalto, Principal Graphics Programmer at Remedy Entertainment, said in a statement:

The new Ray Reconstruction feature in DLSS 3.5 makes the entire world of ray tracing more beautiful than ever, immersing you even deeper into the story of Alan Wake 2.

Powered by Remedy’s in-house Northlight engine (an upgraded version of Control’s much-loved technology), Alan Wake 2 looks set to challenge CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 for the crown of best graphical presentation. Remedy hasn’t shared the PC system requirements yet, but we can expect them to be quite heavy for those who want to enable route tracing.

The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to own such a computer to enjoy the full range of features. Alan Wake 2 will be available on launch day through GeForce NOW, where end subscribers can also enable tracing and DLSS 3.5.

Yesterday evening, Alan Wake 2 fans also enjoyed a new trailer during Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live, which finally showed its co-protagonist stuck in a nightmarish version of New York City.

Alan Wake’s long-awaited sequel is now set to release on October 27th for PC across the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, after a brief delay due to Remedy’s desire to stay out of some way. The game is scheduled to be released in the first half of October.

A series of ritualistic murders threatens Bright Falls, a small town surrounded by the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Saga Anderson, a brilliant FBI agent with a reputation for solving impossible cases, arrives to investigate the murders. Anderson’s case turns into a nightmare when she discovers the pages of a horror story that she begins checking around.

Alan Wake, a lost writer trapped in a nightmare outside our world, writes a dark story in an effort to shape the reality around him and escape from his prison. With dark terrors stalking him, Wick tries to maintain his sanity and outsmart the demon at his own game.

Anderson and Wick are two protagonists on desperate journeys into two separate realities, connected at the heart in ways neither can comprehend: they mirror each other, echo each other, and influence the worlds around them.
