Emmanuel Macron urges Iran to defend Vienna agreement

Emmanuel Macron told his Iranian envoy Ibrahim Raisi on Saturday that Iran “should now seize the opportunity” to defend the Vienna Convention on Iran’s nuclear weapons, the French presidency said.
During the 90-minute telephone exchange, Elysee underlined that “the President stressed the need to conclude an agreement while there is still time.” Was contacted.

“Significant improvement”
The United States announced on Thursday “significant progress” during talks in Vienna to defend the Iranian nuclear deal, with Iran determining a possible deal “in the coming days” if it “intensifies”.
The talks in Vienna are aimed at upholding the 2015 agreement that allowed the lifting of international sanctions against Iran, in return for preventing it from acquiring a nuclear bomb in the face of the severe limitations of Iran’s nuclear program. The United States left it under President Donald Trump in 2018, reckoning it was not enough and re-established its sanctions.
In response, Tehran largely freed itself from control over its nuclear activities. Negotiations are now underway between the signatories to the agreement (China, Russia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Iran), with the indirect involvement of the United States, which has not held direct talks with Tehran.
