The Zaporijjia nuclear power plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in central Ukraine, was set on fire by a Russian military attack. Its security is “guaranteed,” according to Kiev, who has accused Moscow of pursuing “nuclear terrorism.”
“The fire broke out following the bombing by Russian forces on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant,” the plant’s spokesman Andrei Touz said in a video released on Telegram on Friday.
“Nuclear safety is now guaranteed,” Oleksandre Staroukh, head of the military administration in the Zaporizhia region, later said on Facebook, according to which the fire affected a building dedicated to training and a laboratory.
They said they were finally able to intervene at dawn, after losing access to the site by Russian troops.
President Zhelensky blamed Moscow
According to the Ukrainian relief, about forty firefighters and ten vehicles were involved in the operation. In addition, according to this source, none of the victims currently have to grieve.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky has accused Moscow of pursuing “nuclear terrorism” and of wanting to “repeat” the worst Chernobyl disaster of 1986.
