Flight 1118 departed George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 6:40 p.m. and returned at 6:52 p.m., with many of the 167 passengers on board the Boeing 737 capturing footage showing a fire erupting from the left engine. The plane also climbed to an altitude of about 10,000 feet

The plane landed at Bush Airport at 7:13 p.m., just 33 minutes after departure, before United Airlines transferred passengers. It departed for Fort Myers a few hours later, and the cause of the engine fire was not revealed.

United is also offering passengers an additional $200 flight credit and $15 meal vouchers.
