Myanmar's military government has rejected Hun Sen's request to speak with Aung San Suu Kyi, the former civilian leader detained since a 2021 coup.
On May 9, the Irrawaddy News Agency reported that after Aung Sen, the former Cambodian leader, sent a request to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi during a recent conversation with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, military dictator Zaw Min Tun, the Cambodian government spokesman, the military government refused. In Myanmar, there is a demand, stressing that the military government cannot facilitate it at the present time.
This is not the first time that the military government in Myanmar has rejected a request to meet Aung San Suu Kyi, as the military government in Myanmar has previously rejected requests to meet Aung San Suu Kyi from many foreign leaders and diplomats.
This has happened since the Myanmar army seized power. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who reportedly suffered health problems during her detention, was denied detention. Very few would allow anyone to meet her.
While Ms. Aung San and Suu Kyi were arrested, she had met with foreign ambassadors only once, in July last year. That foreign ambassador was Mr. Don Pramudwinai, the Thai Foreign Minister at the time, and Mr. Don Pramudwinai stated that he met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for more than one hour.
While last month was a period in which the temperature was extremely hot, many believed that Aung San Suu Kyi was detained in a place with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius. The junta said Aung San Suu Kyi received the care she needed.
Zaw Min Tun also addressed media reports that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra held talks with several ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. Which united to oppose the military dictatorship in Myanmar and operations along the Thai-Myanmar border as well
