US President Joe Biden returns to Washington on Tuesday, two days after withdrawing from his re-election bid and quashing rumors that he is seriously ill.
Biden spent nearly a week recovering from the coronavirus at a private residence in Wilmington, Delaware, as he weighed his approach to running for president at the end of the year. He eventually agreed to stop campaigning and is preparing to announce his decision not to run for re-election.
President Biden dons his signature aviator sunglasses and a mask as he boards Air Force One for Washington, D.C., where he will address Americans from the Oval Office on Wednesday evening.
The White House physician tells Biden that the president has tested negative for the coronavirus. His condition has improved.
“The president continues to perform all of his presidential duties,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote in a statement Tuesday.
Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech on Wednesday. It is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (7:00 a.m. Thursday, Thailand time) and will discuss “What lies ahead and how can I get the job done for the American people?”
The White House said Thursday. He is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
