Kamala Harris' campaign fund raises $200 million in one week

Kamala Harris's campaign team said Sunday that she has raised $200 million and recruited 170,000 new volunteers in the week since she launched as a Democratic presidential candidate.

After President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid last Sunday, he endorsed Harris on the Nov. 5 ballot to run against former Republican President Donald Trump.

“Just one week since we started @KamalaHarris. We’ve raised $200M, 66% of which came from new donors. We’ve signed up 170,000 new volunteers,” Rob Flaherty, Harris’ deputy campaign manager, posted on X.

Polls over the past week, including Reuters/Ipsos, show Harris and Trump with similar approval ratings. This is a prelude to a very close race in the remaining 100 days before the election.

The Trump campaign said in early July that it had raised $331 million in the second quarter. That was more than the $264 million raised by the Biden campaign and Democratic allies during the same period. The Trump campaign had $284.9 million in cash on hand at the end of June. The Democratic campaign, meanwhile, had $240 million in cash on hand at the time.

Harris has the support of a majority of the delegates going to the Democratic National Convention. She is likely to become the party's presidential nominee next month.

Biden withdraws from election amid questions about his age and health after debate with Trump in late June But Biden has insisted he will remain president until his term ends on January 20, 2025.

Harris's arrival has revitalized a campaign that had failed miserably, and comes amid doubts among Democrats about Biden's chances of defeating Trump or his ability to continue governing if he wins.

Recent polls have shown Trump leading Biden, including in states where the race is still close. After Biden’s disastrous debate, Harris’ arrival has changed that trend.

The New York Times/Siena College national poll was released Thursday. Harris was found to be narrowing Trump’s approval rating. Trump led her by 2 percentage points in a Wall Street Journal poll released Friday. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released July 23 showed Harris ahead by 2 points.

Republican attacks on Harris — the first woman, first person of color and first South Asian to serve as vice president of the United States — have intensified in the days since she became the Democratic presidential nominee.

Trump's fundraising surged after his conviction in late May on criminal charges related to payments to porn stars before the 2016 election and the campaign is expected to intensify.
