One of the leaders of the powerful Clan del Golfo drug cartel, nicknamed Madamba and claimed by American justice, escaped from prison in Bogot வெள்ள on Friday in a new scandal involving prison officials.
Juan Larinson Castro Estubian, also known as Madamba, who was imprisoned in La Picota, was arrested in May 2021 and is awaiting trial in Florida (USA) for cocaine and heroin smuggling and money laundering. Madamba was able to escape because he was an accomplice of prison guards, led by Tiro Usuka, the leader of the Clan del Golfo in the Pacific, a branch of Colombia’s most powerful drug trafficking organization, Ottoniel, who was detained in Bogot.
“I spoke to the Attorney General this morning to make sure the necessary arrests are being made,” President Ivan Duk told reporters. According to Justice Minister Wilson Ruiz, one of the guards has already been arrested.

Madamba is under investigation in Colombia for murder, extortion and illegal possession of firearms. In mid-February, two retired colonels and five soldiers were imprisoned on suspicion of having links with Madamba, who were prosecuted for allegedly giving them “logistics advice”.
Juan Larinson Castro Estubian was part of the Communist guerrillas in Colombia before fighting with the far-right paramilitary forces, the fiercest enemy of the rebels. Later, after negotiating with Ottoniel, he ordered a team of 200 people inside the Clan del Golfo, according to officials.
Colombia has been the center of an armed conflict with guerrillas, paramilitaries, drug traffickers and government agents for more than half a century. The country is the world’s largest producer of cocaine, a source of funding for illegal armed groups. Following this new scandal involving prison administration, President Duke announced a “complete overhaul of the prison and prison system in Colombia.”
In early March, the Colombian government fired the head of the National Prisons and Prisons Agency (INPEC) and the director of Colombia’s largest prison for corruption and for illegally issuing furlongs to a prominent businessman. Carlos Matos, who was involved in a widespread international bribery scandal, was released from La Picota jail at least twice in an in-vehicle without permission, according to an investigation by Carroll News Television. “The system cannot continue these behaviors without precedent barriers,” he said.
