On Saturday night, rising star Gervonta “Tank” Davis returned to the ring to take on arch rival Rolando Romero with Davis’ WBA High School Championship on the line. It is a confrontation between two of the hardest punches in the sport.
Davis has fired 24 of his 26 opponents as a pro while Romero has made the decision only twice in his 14 career fights. Both men are undefeated and will be looking to win and move on to bigger things, including a possible future showdown with the undisputed lightweight championship winner between George Camposus Jr and Devin Haney in Australia in June.
Davis said at the closing press conference. “I won my first title here in Brooklyn and then won my second title at Barclays Center as well. I feel like this fight in this arena is great for boxing.”
The bottom card is filled with three more spells on the PPV. Veterans Irislande Lara and Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan prepare to battle it out for the WBA secondary middleweight title in the co-main event. Lara, 39, has won three consecutive times since a draw with Brian Castano and a loss against Garrett Heard in 2019 and 2018, respectively. O’Sullivan, 37, has won three of his last four with a one-TKO loss to Jaime Munguia in January 2020.
