A fire broke out in a high-rise residential building in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province. In the early hours of this morning (February 24), at least 15 people were tragically killed and more than 40 others injured.

The Chinese authorities quickly mobilized 25 fire engines and about 130 firefighters to control the fire. Before the fire could be brought under control at 6:00 am, and then at around 2:00 pm, the authorities sent rescue workers to search for victims who may have died in the apartment.
Moreover, political officials in Nanjing stated that 44 people were injured in the fire and were taken to hospital. One person was in a coma and another was seriously injured.
Among the initial investigations into the causes of the fire, several electric motorcycles were found parked on the first floor, which is an open area.
