Roger E. Mosley, who portrayed Theodore “TC” Calvin, helicopter pilot and friend Tom SelleckCharacter in all eight seasons of the original Magnum, B, died Sunday. He was 83 years old.

Initially, the writers had TC as the owner of a struggling helicopter company, but Mosley refused to “be the only black person in Hawaii and be broke,” he said. “And they reversed. They decided Tom was going to be bankrupt, and that I would be financially favourable—except I always saved him.”
Mosley also made his character a graduate of Grambling State University, a lover of books and poetry and a man who did not party.
