July 29, 2024 – Mr. Kirati Kitmanawat, Chairman of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), revealed that at the AOT Board of Directors meeting on July 25, 2024, the AOT Board of Directors passed a resolution approving the master plan for the development of the expansion capacity of Suvarnabhumi Airport over a period of 5 years (2025-2030). The meeting approved a budget for the appointment of consultants for the study amounting to 170 million baht with a time period to study the details of the project readiness to be completed within 8 months before the design of the details to be completed within 12 months and ready for construction bids by the end of 2025 – beginning of 2026.
In the study of details, the necessity of implementing the project before or after it will be studied, whether it is the construction of an extension to the passenger building on the western side (western expansion), the construction of a passenger housing building on the southern side (southern expansion) and a passenger housing building on the northern side (northern expansion) including the construction of a warehouse building (cargo), which the consultant will study in detail for each project. Once a result is reached, the priorities of the projects to be built will be determined.
