Apple's foreign suppliers have increased production of the long-awaited new iPad model. Which is scheduled to be released in early May.
Bloomberg News Agency reported, citing sources, that the launch of the new product will focus on the new iPad Pro and iPad Air. A previous Bloomberg report said the Pro models will have new, sharper OLED displays, while the iPad Air will have a 12.9-inch screen for the first time.
The move marks the end of a long period without a new iPad, a product that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs first introduced in 2010. It's been about 18 months since the last update. This is affecting the already sluggish demand for tablets. Apple expects the new iPad to have a faster processor and improved accessories. It will be able to stimulate interest in iPad products.
Following the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Apple's iPad sales have declined over the past two fiscal years, extending through September. 2023, with sales falling another 25% year-over-year during the recent holiday season, when iPads are often a popular gift.
The iPad Pro models, codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721, will use the new M3 chip and work with updated versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. This update represents the first major overhaul of the product since 2018.
