Japan has been notified by the North Korean regime of an upcoming “satellite” launch, which could include a ballistic missile launch.
North Korea announced it will launch a satellite to Tokyo in the coming weeks, the Japanese coast guard announced Monday, in what the Japanese government says will involve a ballistic missile launch.
Pyongyang told the Japanese Coast Guard that a rocket would be launched between May 31 and June 11 and is expected to land in the Yellow Sea, East China Sea and an area east of the island. told AFP.
Vigilance call
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s office said on its Twitter account that he had given instructions regarding “North Korea’s announcement of the launch of a ballistic missile it describes as a satellite.”
Fumio Kishida ordered relevant ministries and agencies to cooperate in gathering intelligence, while calling for vigilance and cooperation with Japan’s allies, including the United States and South Korea.
Pyongyang has stepped up its missile strikes in recent months, some of which have triggered emergency alert systems in Japan. Seoul and Tokyo have been trying to develop long-term ties for the past few weeks. including working together to counter North Korea’s military threats.
