On Friday evening, a passenger train crashed into a stationary freight convoy in central Croatia. Eleven people, including illegal immigrants, were injured in the shock.
At least three people were killed and eleven others injured Friday night when a passenger train collided with a freight train in central Croatia. The Croatian Interior Ministry said the accident happened at 9:30 pm near the town of Novska, 100 kilometers southeast of Zagreb.
“According to current information, eleven injured people have been hospitalized,” Prime Minister Andrej Blenkovic said on Saturday. None of the injured, including foreigners, suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.
A Red Cross official told the state-run HINA news agency that a total of eight foreigners were among the injured, mostly illegal immigrants. A hospital in Nova Gratiska, near the site of the tragedy, said it had received an Iranian family of five.
Convoy halted
The cause of this conflict is still unknown. According to Andrej Blenkovic, the accident occurred when a passenger train traveling on a local route collided with a stationary freight train.
