US President Joe Biden vowed on Tuesday that war-torn Ukraine “will not be a victory for Russia” during a speech in Poland ahead of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion. “A dictator determined to rebuild an empire can never undermine a people’s love of freedom, brutality can never crush the will of those who want to be free,” said the White House tenant.

“Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia, never,” he insisted to thousands of people gathered in front of the royal palace in Warsaw. Speaking a day after his surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital, Joe Biden insisted Kiev was still standing. “Kiev is strong, Kyiv is proud, it stands tall, and above all, it is free,” he told the crowd, waving Polish, Ukrainian and American flags.

The US president was responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anti-Western speech on Tuesday morning. “The West is not plotting to attack Russia as Putin said today. Millions of Russian citizens who want to live in peace with their neighbors are not enemies.

America’s Iron Will

Vladimir Putin “thought autocrats like him were hard and democratic leaders were soft, and then he came up against the iron will of the United States and countries around the world, who refused to accept a world ruled by fear,” he said.

“There should be no doubt: our support for Ukraine will not waver, NATO will not split, and we will not give up,” the US president assured. The official visit to Poland is Joe Biden’s second in twelve months. On Wednesday, he will meet the leaders of NATO’s nine eastern bloc nations in Warsaw.
