Google is testing a new search feature in the beta version of its phone app for Android smartphones. This feature is for verifying incoming phone numbers. It helps users to find out whose phone number it is. Is it a scam number?
The way Lookup works is very simple. Simply press the “Search” button and the system will search for the phone number that called you through a Google search, displaying information related to that phone number such as username, website, or comments from other users.
Search is rolling out to Pixel smartphones first in Japan via the Pixel Features Drop in March 2024. It is expected to be available in other countries soon.
In addition to Pixel smartphones, other smartphones using the beta version of the Phone app can also use this search feature. Without having to wait for a Pixel Features Drop update
However, this search feature is only a basic tool. Phone numbers cannot be guaranteed to be verified with 100% accuracy, and users should always use their best judgment.
Precautions
- Scammers are always developing scams, and this search feature is just an essential tool.
- Do not trust all the information displayed on the screen. You should check other additional sources.
- Personal information should not be given to unknown persons.
- Be wary of various forms of phone scams, such as call center gangs.
The best protection is to always be aware and do not believe anything easily.
