China-Laos railway already supports more than 9,000 “international freight trains”

KUNMING, March 20, 2020 (Xinhua) – China Railway Co., Ltd. Kunming Branch said that the China-Laos railway line has supported more than 9,000 international freight trains carrying goods, and the total imports and exports reached 7.95 million tons as of Tuesday (March 19). .

Since the beginning of 2024, railways have transported 1.15 million tons of cross-border goods by Tuesday, an increase of 33.7 percent year on year.

International freight trains on the China-Laos railway are taking longer to clear customs after initially taking more than 40 hours. Less than 5 hours left now. This checkpoint can also handle up to 18 international freight trains in one day.

The 1,035-km China-Laos railway is a key project under the high-quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative. Operations begin in December 2021, connecting to Kunming in China. Compatible with the capital of Vientiane in Laos.

Currently, goods transport services via this railway cover 12 partner countries in the initiative.
