Shocking video Captured the moment a Chinese acrobat fell 30 feet to her death while performing with her husband, who failed to catch her.
The tragic fall occurred when the stuntwoman and her husband – identified in local media as Sun Momo and Zhang Momo, both 37 – were performing in Hugao Village in central Anhui Province on Saturday.
After the couple is lifted up by a cable, Sun is seen standing at her husband’s feet and then holding his neck while dangling her legs.
In the next terrifying seconds, she lost her grip and Zhang failed to catch her, allowing her to plunge to the ground.
The stuntwoman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The couple were arguing and Sun allegedly refused to wear a safety line for the show, According to What on Weibowhich cited local reports.
Zhang later denied fighting with his wife, telling the Yangzi Evening News: “We were always happy together. There was no fighting.”
But he refused to give more information about the incident, saying. “Since I am in the middle of the process of dealing with all of this, I cannot reveal any specific details at this time.”
The authorities pledged to conduct an in-depth investigation into the tragedy, which led to the cancellation of other shows. Global Times reported.
The Chinese outlet said the company running the show was fined around $7,000 for “holding commercial shows without consent” in 2021.
The husband and wife were reportedly experienced entertainers but often abandoned safety lines “for the sake of looking good,” according to Bieber.
The weekend’s tragedy drew widespread criticism online, with many people questioning why there weren’t enough safety measures, including a safety net and a soft cushion on the floor.
