An Apple executive gave another interview after WWDC 2024, where Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, enjoyed answering questions about AI-powered PCs and Windows tablets.
During this year's The Talk Show Live interview, Craig Federighi addressed rumors that Apple was lagging behind in the field of artificial intelligence, and Apple executives pointed out that Apple is, in fact, not as far behind as many people think because it was launched Neural Engine Macs have been around since 2020, but they were never announced as AI computers.
“It's so funny now with AI computers, it's as if someone just discovered the idea of a neural engine this year,” Craig Federighi said.
“Obviously there's nothing like what we've been doing in phones for years, and the first M1-powered Mac we launched in 2020 and every Mac we've launched since then I think we made a mistake in not calling it AI PC because we've always made great devices.
When asked about allowing the iPad to run both iPadOS and macOS, one Apple executive joked: “We're not trying to build a Windows 8 PC or anything like that.”
Craig Federighi said, “I love my iPad. I probably spend more time using it than my Mac. At the very least, I love my Mac too and I don't want it to become the same machine.”
“When you use the iPad Pro now, it's going to be the best iPad experience you can imagine. And that's worth a lot of people. I mean, this was a great test. And we want to continue to make iPad the best iPad possible. We're not trying to build a Windows 8 PC or anything… Like this.
