During a press conference for the upcoming thriller, Wilde, who directs the film and appears in a supporting role, was asked about the project’s star, Florence Pugh. Pugh missed the press conference due to her filming commitments on “Dune: Part Two,” but she will attend the “Don’t Worry Baby” premiere at the festival on Monday night.
“Florence is strength,” Wilde said. “We are so grateful that she was able to make it happen tonight despite being produced in ‘Dune.’ I know as a director how confusing it is to lose an actor even for one day, so I am so grateful for her, so grateful to Denis Villeneuve (Director of “Dune: Part Two”) To help us, we are thrilled we will celebrate her work tonight.”
Wilde added, “I can’t say enough how honored it is to be our lead. She’s amazing in the movie.”
The manager was asked about reports that she and Pugh had a falling out.
“For all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean the internet is feeding itself,” Wilde said. “I don’t feel the need to contribute. I think it’s nourishing enough.”
The press conference director redirected the conversation when a reporter asked Wilde a question about actor Shia LaBeouf, who was originally cast to play Beau in a role that ended up going to singer-actor Harry Styles, saying, “I think that question was answered,”
“Don’t Worry Baby” starring Gemma Chan and Chris Pine.
“Making music is really personal and there are aspects of acting that you take away from the experience, but mostly it’s pretending to be someone else,” Styles said. “That’s what I find most fun in it.”
Warner Bros. Pictures, owned by CNN’s parent company, distributes “Don’t Worry Darling.” The film premieres Monday night in Venice and will premiere in theaters on September 23.
