And in 45+2 minutes of injury time, Spain escaped 3-0 when 16-year-old rising star Lamin Yamal curled down the right to run and charge Carvajal.
In the second half, Spain managed to hold their own without conceding a goal, despite easing into the game and bringing on several substitutes.
And even though Croatia were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute, Bruno Petkovic was again offside, but Unai Simon's shot was saved.
The match ended, Spain won 3-0, taking the first 3 points nicely.
