Will any humans dare to explore this planet? After scientists discover a planet close to Earth that smells like rotten eggs
Foreign media reports on strange discoveries in astronomy. After a group of scientists used the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to discover a planet outside our solar system. It is as large as Jupiter. It is about 64 light-years away from Earth and has a foul smell similar to the smell of rotten eggs. It is believed that this may be due to the star's surface and atmosphere being abnormal.
The planet, called HD 189733 b, is a blue planet. It takes only 2.2 days to orbit the star because it is so close to the star, only 4.8 million kilometers away, or 3 percent of the distance from Earth to the Sun. Because of its close distance, the temperature on the star's surface reaches 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit, or 926.6 degrees Celsius.
According to a report published in the journal Nature, the James Webb Space Telescope has discovered an exoplanet. It is a gas giant similar to Jupiter but has a larger size and mass. It is located in the direction of the constellation of the Jackal. (The Wolf Constellation)
Hydrogen sulfite has also been detected in the atmosphere. Or what we call hydrogen sulfide, it is a colorless gas. But it is toxic and flammable. It can be detected on Earth through the decomposition of organic matter and volcanoes.
“We’re not looking for life on this planet because it’s too hot,” said Dr. Guangwei Fu, an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University. “But the discovery of hydrogen sulfide is also an important step toward finding this molecule on other planets and better understanding how different types of planets form. It could also measure how much sulfur, or sulphur dioxide, is present on this exoplanet.”
Sulfur is a building block of complex molecules, along with carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and phosphate, and scientists need to study it to fully understand how planets form. What is it made of?
This is why the planet might smell like rotten eggs. Although no scientists or astronauts have ever gone to prove it, due to the discovery of hydrogen sulfide, which includes sulfur, a substance that causes such a bad smell.
