Fantastic research: Smart diapers give a new life to bedridden patients and the elderly
First time in Thailand with innovation “Digital Adult Diapers” is an innovative research project by Thai researchers from Mahidol University that will give “new life” to bedridden patients. Or the elderly who suffer from chronic diseases by monitoring various materials and variables. Urine also has “smart sensors” built into adult diapers
Associate Professor Dr. Weerasak Surarwangchai Lecturer at the Institute of Mathematical Analysis and Testing Sciences, Mahidol University. “Distinguished Technologist” from the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the High Royal Patronage for the year 2016. He is considered the “Wisdom of the Earth” according to the aspirations of Mahidol University. As the owner of new innovations “Digital Adult Diapers”
It would make the lives of bedridden patients or the elderly enjoy a better quality of life in a situation where Thai society has completely entered the aging stage. It is considered one of the distinguished works of the Institute of Mathematical Analysis and Testing Sciences. Mahidol University, which will “transition” into a new role in applying technology to care for the health of the Thai people and around the world.
The Center for Testing of Banned Substances in Athletes, which has obtained the standard certification from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is one of the top 30 countries in the world since 1995 and moved to institutional status in 2018. Its mission goes beyond serving the testing of banned substances in athletes. The mission of research and study: The use of science and analysis for society and the good life is the distinctive feature of the institute.
With the idea of making generally available “adult diapers” it developed into the innovation “digital adult diapers” that can display different parameters that are analyzed from urine to indicate the “health level” of the wearer through “sensors” connected to a “remote medical monitoring system” and can Also presented: “Digital System”
Initially, Assistant Professor Dr. Wierasak and his team designed the innovation. “Digital adult diapers” can monitor the health of the elderly. Bedridden patients with chronically low sodium levels leading to “osteoporosis” and related parameters in urine for monitoring and care “Chronic Kidney Disease Patients”
In addition, innovation will be developed. Digital Adult Diapers can be analyzed by displaying parameters that cover more chronic diseases and are more personalized.
“Digital Adult Diapers” is expected to be the work of Assistant Professor Dr. Weerasak. The researchers collaborated at King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi Biotechnology-NSTDA. It will be developed and could be commercially pushed into large-scale consumer hands within the next two years after being tested for actual use in bedridden patients. Or older people until the results are satisfactory and will probably not be very long. This will allow bedridden and elderly patients to find the “new life” they have been waiting for
