Google’s first retail store opened in New York City last year with purchases, repairs, tips, and product demos. The Google Store also had a Stadia room, but it has been removed from the Chelsea site.
The Google Store in Chelsea, New York City, has removed its Stadia experience room in the past week or two, 9to5Google Made sure on. When visiting the store in person this week, the Stadia room was completely removed and replaced with a new experience around the Pixel Buds Pro. The Stadia experience was still there At least late June.
The Google Store in Chelsea, as today, offers three experience rooms; A Nest product such as the Nest Audio and Hub, a room to test Pixel smartphone cameras, and now a room to try out the Pixel Buds Pro – the Pixel Buds room has replaced the previous Stadia space.
The Stadia room in the Google Store offered anyone the opportunity to try out Stadia games in the Store, using Stadia Controllers with Pixel phones, Pixelbook Go, and Chromecast Ultra on TVs. The room is built with elegant acoustic domes that create a personal listening space without the need for headphones, as well as furniture for sitting and playing games. With the room removed, the Google Store in New York City offers no Stadia demos at all.
Update 8/3: In a statement, Google confirmed that the New York City Google Store is designed to change rooms on occasion.
Contrary to what we’ve seen in the store, though, Google says Stadia demos are still available at Chelsea on Chromecast with the Google TV demo next to the store entrance (partially pictured below). The TV was turned off when we were in the store, but Google confirmed that demos were available.
We’ve always planned to rotate Sandboxes to show the diverse benefit of Google products, so we can continue to give our customers a great in-store experience across all of our devices.
The Stadia Controller and Chromecast with Google TV are still available for purchase in the Google Store, and customers can still play Stadia games in our Chelsea store as well.
The Stadia space launched with the Store in 2021, and is the first room Google has removed from the Store so far. Presumably, Google will swap these three rooms at the Chelsea location as new products are launched over time.
Notably, the Google Store in Brooklyn (Williamsburg) does not have such experience rooms, but Both The sites sell Stadia Controller along with other Google hardware products including Pixel phones, earphones, and Nest products.
