Nicholas Lloyd Webber, son of Andrew Lloyd Webber, died in Basingstoke, England on March 25, after an 18-month battle with stomach cancer. He was 43 years old.
The playwright announced the news of his son’s death on Saturday.
“I am devastated to have to announce that my beloved eldest son, Nick, passed away a few hours ago at Basingstoke Hospital,” the statement read. “His whole family is together and we are all so deeply disadvantaged. Thank you for all of your thoughts during this difficult time.”
Nicholas was checked into hospice care on March 23, after being diagnosed with pneumonia as a result of his cancer diagnosis. Andrew announced through Instagram video that his son would seek further treatment.
“I want to thank you for the outpouring of messages of support for my son Nick. He has now been moved to a shelter and is fighting away.” Andrew said at the time. “I think he got through the worst of the first bout of pneumonia he had from his cancer, which is horrible. We’re all here and the family got together here, and it was the right place for all of us I think.”
Born July 2, 1979, Nicholas Lloyd Webber has followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, becoming a Grammy-nominated composer, as well as a record producer. Nick has acted in feature, short, television and theatrical films.
Most recently, the father and son collaborated on the original 2021 “Bad Cinderella.” The musical, titled “Bad Cinderella,” is now being produced on Broadway.
Nicholas is best known for creating BBC One’s ‘Love, Lies and Records’ as well as the 2017 stage production ‘Fat Friends: The Musical’.
He is survived by his father and his wife, Polly Wiltshire.
