The death toll in China’s landslides has risen to 21
Houses were washed away and roads, bridges and infrastructure were damaged in the north of the country.
At least 21 people were killed in a rain-triggered landslide in northern China, according to a new report from authorities on Sunday.
A flash flood hit a mountain in Weixiping, a small village near Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province, at around 6:00 pm local time (12:00 pm HB) on Friday. An earlier tally said four people had died on Sunday morning.
“Six people are missing” after the tragedy, the emergency management office of the provincial capital Xi’an said in a statement posted online.
Houses were swept away
The rain led to a landslide that “swept away two houses” and “damaged roads, bridges, electricity and other infrastructure”, national public radio CNR reported earlier.
A hundred soldiers and firemen were assembled.
