In general, compassion is Joe Biden’s forte. The president draws on his personal experience — he lost his first wife and daughter in a car accident, and then, most recently, his eldest son died of cancer — to find words to comfort those afflicted by America’s tragedies. But the White House tenant is on the defensive in the face of the fires that have devastated Lahaina, Hawaii.
Last weekend, as the fire toll took its toll, Joe Biden irresponsibly responded to reporters with “no comment.” The conservative media went wild. The White House is trying to minimize the damage. Finally, the President will travel to the island of Maui on Monday. He will be expected at the turn by the citizens caught in the fire. No warning was issued, and another thousand people are still missing.
