Bangladeshi fire officials said they were now able to control the fire. But the cause of this fire is still unknown.

Bangladeshi Health Minister Samantha Lal Sen said there were 33 victims, including women and children. One person was declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while 10 others died at a specialized hospital for burn victims in Dhaka. Dozens of injured people were also sent there to receive treatment.

According to local media Daily Bangladesh, the officials were asked to go to the Kachchi Bhai restaurant inside the seven-storey building.

The manager of a restaurant in the building told AFP that they began to see smoke rising through the stairs of the sixth floor, while many people were rushing towards the stairs. This forced them to climb a water pipe to the bottom of the building. While some people jumped from the stairs in a hurry and were injured.
