In new Interview with Vanity FairThe Marvels director Nia DaCosta revealed that she was in frequent contact with former Marvel directors before and during the making of her MCU spin-off. I asked Chloé Zhao (“Eternals”), James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), and Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok”) before accepting the directing gig for “The Marvels” if entering the Marvel universe was a good idea.
“Are they going to kill me and destroy my soul? Is Kevin Feige a bad guy? And they were like, ‘No, he’s just a good guy and he was obsessed,'” she joked.
While filming The Marvels, DaCosta would text Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton on difficult shooting days. She would text him “I’m exhausted” and “I’m so stressed.”
As DaCosta said vanity fair, “Sometimes, you might be in a scene and wonder: What the hell does any of this crap mean?” Or one of the actors is looking at some crazy stuff going on in space, and so are they [actually] Look at the blue X. “Obviously there were tough days, days where you were like, ‘This isn’t working.'”
The Marvels is a sequel to Captain Marvel that reunites superhero Brie Larson with WandaVision’s Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Ms. Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan. Marvel.” It’s been a shaky year for comic book fans, with Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and other films like “The Flash” and “Shazam!”. “Wrath of the Gods” floundering at the box office. Marvel is certainly hoping “The Marvels” will be more like “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($845 million worldwide).
“I think superhero fatigue is definitely there,” DaCosta said. Total Film Magazine Earlier this year. “The biggest difference from other MCU films so far is that [‘The Marvels’ is] Really foolish and silly. The worlds we go to in this movie are different worlds than the worlds you’ve seen in the MCU. Bright worlds you’ve never seen before.”
While DaCosta has tried to bring as much of her voice to the MCU as possible It is still intended for Vanity Fair “The Marvels” is “produced by Kevin Feige, it’s his movie.” So I think you’re living this reality, but I tried to go in knowing that some of you would take a back seat.
“It was really cool to play in this world, and be a part of building this big world, but it just made me want to build my own world even more,” she added.
Disney’s The Marvels is scheduled to hit theaters on November 10.
