The stock market and the bond market are closed every year on Christmas Day.
This is a given this year with Christmas falling on a Sunday. Instead, the stock market and bond market will be closed in December 26, also known as Boxing Day across the pond, to celebrate the holiday.
The stock market failed to make a rally on Santa Claus last week. S&P 500 Index (SP500) (spy) closed decreased by 0.2% for the week. But some market observers argue that the seasonal rally should be measured in terms of performance for the week of January 2nd rather than the week of December 25th.
While Wall Street strategists expect only modest gains for stocks in 2023, with the S&P average price target at 4,080, Alpha readers are still looking for Stocks are preferred by a large margin over any other asset class.
Is the stock market open on christmas eve?
The markets are closed on the 24th of December this year as it falls on a Saturday.
When Christmas Eve falls on a normal trading day, the stock market closes early at 1 PM ET and the bond market closes early at 2 PM ET.
On November 30, the New York Stock Exchange celebrated the 99th annual lighting of the Christmas tree located on Broad Street. Dating back to 1923, it is one of the oldest public tree displays in New York.
