Green Bay, Wis. – Green Bay Packers cornerback Jair Alexander Thought it was high Justin Jefferson As he does with any receiver in the NFL.
He just doesn’t think the Minnesota Vikings star will repeat his performance from the season opener — 11 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the 23-7 defeat of the Packers on Sept. 11 — when the two teams meet again at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
“You just have to be real: He’s not hopping around in any fancy jumpsuit and getting dressed and jumping outside, do you hear me?” Alexander said Thursday. “I don’t sometimes. But he is [is] Human, is what I’m saying. We don’t put too much on anyone.
“He’s a really good receiver. But at the end of the day, I’m a really good cornerback. We’ve got really good corners, we’ve got really good linebackers, D-line, whatever. You don’t do that. I don’t want to focus too much on that guy because he’s like The first match, it was a fluke.”
Alexander, who was selected to the Pro Bowl this season for the second time in his career, said Jefferson is among his top three wide receivers.
“Davant Adams No. 1, I think [Miami’s Jaylen] waddle He probably snuck in there as of last weekend, Alexander said. I think he’s a really good receiver.
Both Alexander and his colleague are in the corner Messenger Douglas They underestimated the first meeting of the season. In fact, they said they didn’t spend any time going back to watch a movie of what Jefferson did when he had six of his catches for 158 yards and both touchdowns in the first half.
“I don’t really remember that match,” said Douglas. “I kind of brought up all the games in the first half of the season.”
Still, it’s not like Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry ignored that first meeting. The defensive coaches included several of those plays in their short films this week.
“In the NFL football season, that was a long time ago,” Barry said. “But we’ve studied it and we’ve looked at it and of course there are things that they’ve done and are still doing. So, of course we’ve looked at those things. But you live and you learn from every experience, and that’s definitely something we’ve learned from it to the next.”
Since then, Douglas has moved from the slot position to an outside cornerback, and Alexander is occasionally used to follow a certain receiver throughout the game—a strategy Barry did not use against the Jeffersons in the opening game.
“we will, [Jefferson] As a matter of fact, it’s funny you ask about that because I’ve been looking at his production game-by-play, and they do a great job of moving him around,” said Packers coach Matt LaFleur. “That’s why it presents some challenges. Unless you just want to lock it up.” And playing a guy, who opens up a new can of worms every moment, it’s hard to tell where he’s at. I think you have to do a great job of giving him a different look, but you always have to be aware of where he is on the field.”
The Packers (7-8) will be eliminated from contention with a loss on Sunday with wins for either the Detroit Lions (over the Chicago Bears) or the Washington Leaders (over the Cleveland Browns). Even if they win their last two games, they will need help in the form of either one loss by the Leaders or two losses by the Giants to get in.
