after victorious return Taking to the ring for the first time in nine months, Kenny Omega stepped into the microphone last night (August 17) after dynamite I got off the air.
It was the usual promotion to thank the audience, but it also included Omega confirming that it was still far from 100%. He described his return as a “work in progress”. Kenny also reiterated why he and The Young Bucks helped form AEW. This part of his speech included some audio clips that were certainly directed at his critics, and could be interpreted as being directed at past and present members of the All Elite roster. It also included an acknowledgment that he and The Bucks may not always be in the company they were a part of creating:
“When we’re in this episode, you get Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, an elite performer, from Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. We don’t pretend to be someone we’re not. We’re not a tribute business. We’re not a parody. We’re not selfish and we’re not into this one.” For selfish means and selfish gain We’re here to leave a legacy And this legacy isn’t titles It’s not matching ratings It’s not even how much money we make for our families and ourselves It’s changing the world by changing the world of wrestling and the way you guys consume… It’s going to be a group Variety of wrestling, that’s always been a mission statement. As long as The Elite is here, we’ll make sure you get that variety every time we show up.”
The Cleaner warned fans that regardless of this crowd-pleasing rhetoric, he won’t always be a good kayfabe guy. This led to this oddly funny analogy:
“Maybe I should be angry too. Because the reason I’m in this state now. The reason I have to get three, sometimes four sessions of physical rehab every day, is because of you. I should probably hate all of you because I come back here from Hey guys. It’s never mine. So what I’m going to do now is I’m going to be a bit weird. I don’t go out much, so I’ve become a weird individual. I’m going to liken you fans to a very mischievous cat who pees and poops all over the house. Boy, do I get pissed when I find her. Oh Boy, am I going crazy because I have to clean it up. But how can I hate a kitten? So on TV, I might blame you guys. I might resent you guys. But maybe, deep inside, as long as this was never broadcast [laughs] – I appreciate you very much.”
