Several thousand people are expected to be part of an authorized demonstration linking Ochi to the Place de la Ripon on Saturday from 1pm to 3pm. The rally organized by the Kurdish community is taking place as part of the 100th anniversary of the Lausanne Accords. In 1923 the treaty drew the borders of modern Turkey. Organizers say the demonstration is aimed at “condemning” the deal that left the Kurdish people stateless.

Sevgi Koyuncu, a member of the organizing committee and a municipal councilor in Lausanne, announced in the media that they wanted to gather “100,000 people” on the streets of the Vaud capital. After the procession, events will continue until 10pm in La Ripon.

Amid traffic restrictions, Ripon car park is inaccessible between 7am and midnight and the market closes at 1pm. Several traffic jams are planned from time to time along the route of the event. Rue du Tunnel (axis place du Tunnel – rue du Valentin) will be closed to traffic in both directions, including public transport, on any occasion between 8am and 8pm. Rue Pierre-Viret will be closed to traffic from 9pm on Friday until midnight on Saturday.
