Avondale, Arizona – Kyle Larson She won the pole on Saturday at the NASCAR Rentals Work United Cup Series 500 at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday.
Larson’s lap of 130.237 mph in his No. 5 Chevrolet was another positive for Hendrick Motorsports, which finished 1-2-3 at Las Vegas last weekend, driven by the race winner. William Byron.
Larson won the Cup championship at Phoenix in 2021. Byron qualified third for Sunday’s race in his No. 24 Chevrolet.
Larsson was the last car to take to the track in the final round of qualifying on Saturday and won Denny Hamlin, who would start on the outside of Row 1 in his No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. Larson was also the fastest car in practice on Friday.
Brad Keselowski Fourth will start Christopher Bell Rounding out the top five.
“The playoffs are really important here,” Larson said. “We got the pole in ’21 and that really helped us win the championship race. I think the #1 stall means a lot, so it’s a pleasure to be fast this weekend, fast in practice and make it translate into qualifying.”
It wasn’t all good news for Team Hendrick this week. NASCAR officials took the hood vents from Hendrick’s four cars—including Larson’s and Byron’s—on Friday and will bring them to the North Carolina R&D Center for inspection.
Any potential sanctions will be announced next week.
