Maduro will guarantee future dialogue between Colombia and a guerrilla
Venezuela joins Chile and Cuba in guaranteeing future peace talks between Colombian authorities and ELN guerrillas.
At the request of Colombian President Gustavo Pedro, both governments announced on Tuesday that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro had accepted his country’s presence as a guarantor of future peace talks between Colombian authorities and ELN guerrillas.
In a public letter released Tuesday, shortly after restoring diplomatic ties with Caracas, Gustavo Pedro demanded that Venezuela join the talks with the last recognized guerrillas in Colombia as a “guarantor country.” “Venezuela assumes the guarantor role (…) of course!” Nicolás Maduro responded.

Resume negotiations
Colombia’s first leftist president, Gustavo Pedro, took office in early August, reactivating ties with the ELN, resuming talks suspended by his predecessor Ivan Duque’s government in 2019. 22 people died besides the attacker.
Envoys of the new head of state have already met with representatives of the Queerista guerrillas in Havana.
Gustavo Pedro has shown his willingness to negotiate with the dissidents of the ELN and the former FARC (those who reject the 2016 peace accord with these Marxist guerrillas), but to discuss their surrender to justice with drug traffickers.
