When we reported last week that the Pixel Watch 2 was coming with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, we didn’t know what it would be called. According to this evening’s leak, that appears to be the name indeed.
Evan Blass this evening chirp A screenshot that simply says “Pixel Watch 2.” Presumably, the reputable leaker complained to a retailer, carrier, etc. while preparing the Google wearable.
Appending a number to a naming scheme isn’t as surprising to Google as it is to Pixel phones, while Samsung and Apple also follow, although “Series” is still in use. Another possibility could be “(2nd generation)” as we saw with the Nest Hub and Mini, while Google has mostly stayed away from the year.
We weren’t able to report on the feature set, but the lack of any leaks is somewhat noticeable in itself. The codename – ‘Rohan’ last year – must have leaked out somehow by now.
Before its official unveiling at last year’s I/O, there were leaks, including retail/carrier, giving an idea of the design before it was famously left out in a restaurant and subjected to hands-on hardware and an AMA. Then we reported on key specs like processor and battery life.
In this regard, Google does a better job of keeping the Pixel Watch closed.
If Google teases the Pixel Watch 2 on Wednesday, it will be able to announce the same design, which is quite rare for the company. Another upside is that it can confirm that the same band connection mechanism is in use, which will benefit sales of the Metal Links Band when it launches this spring.
However, he must weigh that the current model will be on the market for another five months. For example, Google is rumored to be offering a Pixel watch with Pixel Fold purchases.
