Minneapolis – MSP travelers had to deal with long lines and cancellations on Saturday.
The storm canceled or delayed nearly 200 departures for the day. It also led to security problems.
The airport says it was understaffed due to the storm, so only one security checkpoint was open for a while.
“…it was kind of a nightmare,” said Jim Sexton, of Buffalo. “Our trip was canceled due to weather. In terms of the staff and everything else going, this really is my worst travel experience… We probably added $10,000 to our trip – probably over $10,000 to our trip.”
Terminal 1 has seen some of the longest lines.
One passenger told WCCO that they boarded their flight only for it to be cancelled.
“We knew there were going to be some problems, but nothing like we imagined,” said Summer Pitcha, from Plymouth. “We got to the airport at 1:48, lines like crazy, we got it just in time, and found out our flight was delayed — about four hours late. We finally got on the plane, sat there, strapped in, and ready to go. They told us to get off the flight.”
While every airline was affected by the storm, Sun Country Airlines sent a letter apologizing for the delay and cancellation on Saturday afternoon.
“Our teams are working hard to resume operations for our customers, and we are grateful to our customers for their patience. We will do everything we can to get them to their destinations safely and as quickly as possible,” Sun Country said in a press release.
As of Saturday, it was one of the three snowiest winters ever in the metro area.
