NASA’s capsule carrying asteroid samples will return to Earth today – MCOT Thai News Agency

WASHINGTON, September 24 – A National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) capsule contains the largest amount of soil samples ever collected from an asteroid. The spacecraft is scheduled to return to Earth on Sunday. He passed through the Earth’s atmosphere and parachuted into the desert in the US state of Utah.

Scientists have high hopes for the recovered samples. It is believed that it will be able to provide information for a better understanding of the formation of the solar system. How did Earth become a habitable planet?

The Osiris-Rex spacecraft enters a major moment today. Because entering the Earth’s atmosphere is very dangerous. The capsule will be launched from an altitude of about 108,000 kilometers, or four hours before landing. NASA hopes Osiris-Rex will land smoothly at 9:00 AM local time in the United States or 10:00 PM local time in Thailand. This completes a six-year journey, as the Osiris-Rex spacecraft launched into space in 2016, and six years later it landed on the asteroid Bennu and collected dust and soil samples on Bennu. It weighs about 250 grams to bring it back to Earth. Although the sample is only a small amount, NASA said it will be able to help understand the characteristics of asteroids that will pose a threat to the world. It will help in understanding the origins of the solar system.- Thai News Agency
