New York City mom loses eye after brutal beating on the subway

Mother of Queens brutally beaten By a rowdy homeless man in the Howard Beach subway station she confirmed for the first time that she would lose an eye due to the attack.

“I’m going to be blind in my right eye now,” said Elizabeth Gomez. “The nervous system is completely damaged and the eye is completely retracted.”

Gomez, 33, said she is scheduled to meet with a specialist at New York Eye and Ear Hospital on February 13 to learn the next steps in getting a prosthetic eye.

“I mean honestly, I still wake up every day and still can’t believe it. I still think to myself ‘Oh my God, I lost my sight at 33 while I was going to work. How can my life be the same,'” Gomez said. .

Her life changed tragically shortly after 5 am on September 20 when she got off the subway at the Howard Beach A train station on her way to her job as a security guard at Kennedy Airport.

A man who was yelling about the devil hit her over the head with a bottle and then chased after her before throwing her into the side of a token booth and then repeatedly hitting and stomping on her.

Waheed Foster, 42, was indicted in September on charges of attempted murder and assault.

Gomez has not been able to return to work and is still afraid of being around groups of people. She lives with her mother, her fiancee, Clement Tucker, and their 3-year-old son. She has two other children, ages 10 and 12, and Tucker has two children.

She said, “I can’t let them see that I made something like this I just control my life and I can’t be the mother I know I can be with them.”

She said she wanted Foster removed forever, but he is currently being held in a state mental health office after he was deemed unfit to stand trial, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

“I think he has to get a long reign so he doesn’t get out again,” Gomez said. “He should feel what we felt, like the pain and suffering we had to go through.”
