Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. A remaster of Intelligent Systems’ popular RPG was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, giving a new generation a chance to appreciate its unique charm.
Part of the long-running Paper Mario series, Thousand-Year Door blends beautiful 3D animation with distinctive 2D visuals. It joins the remake of the Super Mario RPG that was announced during a Nintendo Direct in June.
Fans have been clamoring for a re-release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for years, citing its charming writing, strong role-playing mechanics and lack of availability outside of the Gamecube.
We’re similarly positive in our original 2004 review. “The story is funny, the gameplay is diverse, and the world is so charming, you’ll want to explore every corner of it,” we wrote.
“Add to that plenty of playable characters and friends, some great characters, an unforgettable score loaded with classic tunes, and a 30-hour quest, and you’ve got another winning branch in the great Mario franchise.”
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was revealed alongside F-Zero 99, Unicorn Overlord, and the Tomb Raider Remastered collection during the Nintendo Direct. It joins the Super Mario RPG remake, which was announced earlier this year and received a new gameplay trailer during today’s presentation. Check out Everything Announced for a full list of everything revealed.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released on Nintendo Switch in 2024.
